No commentsSarah Palin: The Gender Card
While the limelight may be fading on Sarah Palin, 20% of Hillary Clinton supporters still back this Alaska beauty queen. And the media hasn’t stopped hoisting her into the headlines. In this video, Jon Stewart points out the blatant hypocrisy of nominating and lionizing Sarah Palin as the Republican candidate for Vice President.
After the jump, CNN criticizes the McCain camp for protecting Palin like a “delicate flower” while championing her as a strong woman. McCain’s refusal to allow Palin to answer questions or to debate is proof that something is afoot with this supposedly strong VP candidate.

Recipe for Hysterics
- Mix two parts Homecoming Princess with one Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
- Sift in unrealistic aspirations of grandeur a la LEGALLY BLONDE.
- Knead until it resembles your first boss who hired you because he thought you were easy.
- Make sure to accept the offer for more screen time by traveling to St. Paul to cover the Republican National Convention.
- When the rioting comes to a boil, crank up the heat by screaming uncontrollably.
- When the mixture starts to smell like tear gas, its done.
Confessions of a Girl: Why Do Straight Girls Go For Gay Guys?
Women Be Trippin’ welcomes Kristin Palmer - our newest member of the gang.
I think I was in 10th grade when my best friend turned to me one day and suggested that we “adopt” a gay guy to be part of our B-level popularity clique. “It would be great. We could go shopping with him and he could do our hair and our makeup and we would probably have crushes on all the same guys at school.”
My reaction to this proposal about eight years ago was similar to my reaction last weekend when a fully grown, adult woman acquaintance of mine mentioned that she too would like to find a nice gay to be her friend: What The F*ck?
Besides the obviously insulting assumption that a gay BFF can just be easily picked up from a fictional Bedazzled vending machine and used like an outfit accessory, I have to wonder where this collective female desire was spawned and why it perpetuates. (More after the jump.) Read more

PUMAs Are Just Silly
As we pointed out earlier this year, Senator Clinton’s loss in the primaries spurred many people to leap across the aisle and support John McCain, including the recent defection of Clinton fundraiser Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Further emboldened by the nomination of Sarah Palin for VP and de Rothschild’s desertion, these vindictive voters have organized themselves into a political action committee called PUMA (Party Unity, My Ass).
De Rothschild, for one, says that she couldn’t back Obama because he “hasn’t given [her] a reason to trust him.” (Clearly, McCain has demonstrated himself as a pillar of trust.)
And just so we’re all clear: These former Hillary supporters hail Sarah Palin as the new torchbearer of women’s rights, but they’ve neglected to take a look at her political views:
- She opposes a woman’s right to choose, including cases of rape and incest.
- She supports abstinence-only education, despite its obvious failures. Or she supports condom-education. (She can’t seem to make up her mind.)
- She opposes gay and lesbian marriage, despite “having gay friends.”
- She also opposes the expansion of legislation to ensure equal pay for equal work.
- As mayor, she forced rape victims to pay up to $1200 for their own rape kits.
Confessions of a Girl: Indexed
Since the beginning of the internet and its anonymous authors, people have been talking about their feelings and being completely honest. The best part of honesty is that we can cut to the truth of how people think. And by people, I mean women. Here’s a few examples of great, honest women.
These are from a cool blog called Indexed:
